A State High Court in Lagos state has sentenced Drambi Vandi, a police officer who was accused for shooting Bolanke Raheem to death by hanging.
A High Court in Lagos state has sentenced a police officer, Drambi Vandi to death by hanging for shooting Bolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day 24th December, 2022.
On Monday, 9th of October, Judge Ibironke Harrison issued the judgment which found the police officer guilty of murdering the Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.
“The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead,” Judge Harrison ruled.
Recall that on Christmas Day, 25th December 2022, Raheem, an expectant woman, was shot and killed while on her way to church with her family at the Ajah roundabout in Lagos State.
Drambi Vandi, who works for the Ajiwe police division in Ajah was suspended two days after the shooting.
He was charged with a single count of murder by the state government.
the prosecution presented 7 witnesses for their case alongside 24 exhibits.
Vandi, as the sole witness for the defense, claimed that the bullet allegedly responsible for Raheem’s death did not come from his gun which he was carrying on the day of the incident.
He also stated he had never seen the bullet before it was shown in court.
