Ilebaye Precious Odiniya, is a Nigerian reality TV star, Criminologist, fashion model, Brand influencer and entrepreneur.

She is popularly known as the “Gen-Z Baddie” or “Baye”, a name she earned in her second stay in Big Brother House. Her fans are called the Baye tribe. 

Ilebaye became popular in 2022 after being the fourth housemate to be revealed among the 24 contestants of the Big Brother Naija “Level Up” Season 7, She grew a large fan base, but did not win the grand prize of “N100 million” for the season. 

She came back to the Big Brother house in the next season “All stars” and luckily stole the hearts of fans.

She gained more fame and her fan base tripled rapidly making her the winner of the Big Brother Naija Season 8. Since then, Ilebaye has bagged several endorsement deals and partnered with numerous brands. [1]

Ilebaye early life before fame

Ilebaye was born on 9 May 2001 in Okpo, Olamaboro local government area in Kogi state,Nigeria, the same place she was raised. She is from the Igala tribe in Kogi state. She is the daughter of Hon. Emmauel Godson Odiniya and Mrs odiniya. Her father who is presently a politician, was once a Physical health education (PHE) at the Government Secondary School in Alloma, Ofu, Kogi state, Nigeria.[2]

Yes, Ilebaye is educated up to the tertiary level. She had her secondary education in Federal Government Girls College, Kabba, Kogi state and her tertiary education in Salem University, Lokoja, Kogi state, where she studied criminology and security studies.[2] 

Is Ilebaye an actress?

Ilebaye started acting from a very young age. She featured in a number of movies including Papa Ajasco and Nnenna and friends during her early years in Jss1. This has shaped her and made her to stand out which is evident in the tasks she handled while in the big brother house.[3]

How did Ilebaye become famous?

Ilebaye’s first appearance in the 7th season of Big Brother Naija “Level Up” shot her to stardom. In 2022, Ilebaye auditioned for the seventh season of Big Brother Naija. She was selected as one of the housemates and entered the house on July 23, 2022 as the fourth housemate out of the 28 housemates. Unfortunately she was evicted from the show after 3 weeks which is August 12, 2022.[4]

However in 2023, Ilebaye was invited back to the 8th edition of Big Brother Naija, the All Stars season. She entered the house on 23 July 2023 as the 13th housemate out of 20 housemates.[5] While in the house, Ilebaye won numerous tasks and challenges. She was loved by her fans for being outgoing, fun-loving, competitive and most especially for being herself unashamedly.

In October 1, 2023, Ilebaye was declared the winner of the Big Brother Naija all stars season after scoring 30.08% of final votes against the first runner up, Mercy eke who scored 23.48% of total votes cast. This made her entitled to the grand prize of N120 million cash and other prices. Ilebaye is the third female to win the Big Brother Naija show.[2]

Did fans vote for Ilebaye out of pity

Ilebaye truly brought her A-game to the Big Brother Naija all stars season. Due to her performance in the Big Brother Naija season 7, audiences thought she would battle with inferiority complex like before in the Big Brother Naija season 8, but rather she was more of a mustering tiger offering vawulence to anyone who crosses her path even to the housemates, who were considered fierce. She has clashed with a number of housemates in the house including, Venita, Tolani Baj, Doyin, and CeeC and has had two strikes at her early days in the house.[6]

Moreover, the Big Brother Naija show is all about thrilling the audience and gaining them to your side. Ilebaye was able to capture the hearts of the audience, and entertained them with her outstanding prowess. She beat the imaginations of viewers who thought she would be evicted and stayed relevant to the end of the show.

Ilebaye’s supporters often referred to her as “the most hated most bullied housemate”, they claim she was bullied for being unique and different, and therefore stands for those who are experiencing such in their various lives. Ilebaye is known to standing up to those who she felt suppressed by.[7]

After she won, her non-fans claimed that she won out of pity of being bullied. But in a recent interview with Clout Africa, Ilebaye refuted that. She said “I won because, I’m destined to win this year, this is my time, this is my grace and my fans also added to me winning, because they supported me, they loved me, they had sleepless nights voting for me, all day all night, Baye tribe. yes and God, so I played the game and I won, so bullying or no bullying, nah that wasn’t it”.

Ilebaye’s performance in Big Brother Naija all star season, was mind blowing and intriguing, her strategy raised eyebrows. One of her strategy in the show was to form close bonds with the male housemates, which drew attention and criticism at the same time from viewers and even her fellow contestant.[7]

Why is Ilebaye called the Gen Z baddie?

The term “baddie” emerged from Black social media and hip hop culture in the 2010s to describe a woman who is incredibly stylish, unapologetically sexy, fashionable and confident with a bold, and edgy aesthetic. Ilebaye ticks all the boxes of being a baddie

Ilebaye is a quintessential member of Generation Z, which is defined as those born between 1997 and 2012. Her outspokenness, boundary-pushing style, and passion for social media align with the values of Gen Z.

Yes, Ilebaye emerged the final head of the house in the Big Brother Naija all stars show. This qualified for the finals. She became the HOH after beating Angel to an endurance game during the arena games. As the HOH she selected four BFFs including, Angel, Venita, Mercy and Cee-C.[9]
