A Twitter user identified by his handle as @budgetOdogwu, has shared a story about a Nigerian man who divorced his wife because she refused to work after he became rich.
According to @budgetOdogwu, the Nigerian man which he referred to as “Egbon,” initially married his wife while he was working at First Bank.
At that point in this marriage, the financial responsibilities rested soley on the man’s shoulders as his wife pursued her nursing education in Port Harcourt.
However, things started to go south when the man secured a job at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) leading to tension in the marriage.
The wife decided to quit her job. The man was surprised by his wife’s decision to quit her job, but he chose to overlook it and proceeded to establish a business for her in Okporo
Despite setting up a business for her in Okporo, he noticed that his wife was not contributing financially to the family, and all bills were on him.
The situation escalated as man’s wife felt entitled to his money, leading him to secretly build wealth and properties without her knowledge.
In 2018, just three months after leaving SPDC, the man filed for divorce, expressing that he felt used as a financial ticket rather than a partner.
