Man sues his ex-girlfriend who dumped him after sponsoring her through University

A young Ghanaian man identified as Otu reportedly sued his ex girlfriend, Mercy Agyei for allegedly refusing to marry him despite sponsoring her university education.

A young Ghanaian man, identified simply as Otu, has reportedly sued his ex-girlfriend, Mercy Agyei, alleging that she refused to marry him despite sponsoring her university education.

It all started six years ago in Kumasi, in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, where Otu proposed marriage to Mercy and took upon himself the responsibility of financing her university education.

He went over and beyond to finance Mercy’s education, he also started a business for her mother and fulfilled other numerous financial commitments during the course of their relationship.

As the romance progressed, Otu followed the advice of Mercy’s mother and relocated her to Tema.

In Tema, he continued to support Mercy financially, covering the expenses of her Higher National Diploma (HND) program at the Accra Technical University (ATU) and her subsequent degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

His financial assistance did not end with Mercy’s education; he claimed to have also supported her younger’s brother education and facilitated accommodation for her mother.

However, the relationship took an unexpected turn when Mercy, secured a job at a bank in Ghana, decided to end their relationship.

Feeling betrayed by this, Otu took the matter to the Kumasi Circuit Court, filing a lawsuit for GH¢350,000 (approximately N26 million).

The lawsuit alleges that Otu’s financial contributions were made under the expectation that the relationship would lead to marriage.
