A magistrate court seating in Abuja has summoned 5 people for criminal defamation of Mercy Chinwo and her husband, pastor Blessed Uzochikwa.
An Abuja magistrate court has summoned 5 people for “criminal defamation” of the reputations of Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa.
The five defendants were ordered by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna to appear before the court on April 23, 2023, to answer the allegations against them.
Recall that after Mercy Chinwo, revealed the face of her child, some social media users made some claims about the paternity of her son.
These individuals claimed that the child had a striking resemblance to her colleague, Nathaniel Bassey.
The five persons named in the court summons include; Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie.
According to a criminal complaint submitted by the complainants’ attorneys, Pelumi Olajengbesi of the Abuja-based media firm Law Corridor, the defendants’ alleged activities amounted to cyberstalking, harmful falsehoods, and cyber intimidation directed at Mercy Chinwo and her spouse.
The complainants claimed that the defendants’ purported conduct violated Sections 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and Section 391 of the Penal Code.
