A South African lady has sparked debate online after she share a tradition in south Africa where the corpse of a dead person who committed suicide is beaten so that it will not reoccur in the family.


A South African lady on X has shared their tradition of beating the corpse of a dead person who committed suicide so that it does not reoccur in the family.

The lady @MapsMashigo, while sharing the information on X revealed that she was not aware of this tradition until recently when her cousin committed suicide.

According to her narration, her cousin took her life on Monday, and her mother was asked to beat her naked corpse as tradition demands so that it will not happen in the family again.

In her words;

“Yoh!!!!! My Cousin killed herself on Monday. Today they are going to beat her up while she’s resting so that this doesn’t happen again in the family. My mom has to do it, she’s already shaking 😭💔”
